Our Cattle
Turkey Foot Ranch is committed to the land and to our animals. Our cattle are raised in a healthy, clean and natural environment best suited to their needs. Animals are treated humanely to help them be happy and content. Intensive rotational grazing is utilized to provide superior nutrition to the cattle; improve soil, water and plant quality and meet the needs of our native wildlife.
Healthy cattle on well managed grass have a clean natural flavor. We utilize breeds of cattle known for tenderness, natural marbling and quality red meat. Low stress, humane handling techniques and a short haul to the locker, plus dry aging, improve tenderness and taste.
??Our cattle are raised naturally on lush green grasses, with no artificial hormones, sub therapeutic antibiotics or pesticides added. Lean grass fed beef is high in healthy fats such as Omega 3 Fatty Acid and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), proven to be essential for good health. All natural grass fed beef is also low in cholesterol, unhealthy fats, and calories. Grass fed beef is high in vitamins such as Vitamin A and E and Beta Carotene. By utilizing rotational grazing and a diversity of forages (cool season and warm season grasses and legumes) our cattle are able to graze 10 to 11 months of the year. In late winter high quality hay harvested from our pastures is fed. Therefore our animals have only had these natural forage plants, mother???s milk, and free choice minerals (sea salt and kelp mill).
We forbid any growth hormones, steroids, or antibiotics to be given to our cattle, so our customers can be assured of receiving pure, healthy beef the way nature intended. As a result, the animals grow at a natural pace. For these reasons and more, grass-fed animals live low-stress lives and are healthy.
We maintain our landscape in a native prairie ecosystem which protects our soil, water, plants and wildlife resources and we rely on our renewable resources: Sunlight, soil, water and photosynthesis to grow grass naturally. Turkey Foot Ranch has been recognized as a Clean Water Farm and A Stream Steward by Kansas Rural Center and Kansas Department of Health and Environment respectively, for implementing livestock production practices that improve water quality. We have also received a natural resources stewardship award.
